The so-called third mission of universities includes all the activities with which universities enter into direct interaction with society, providing a contribution as well as traditional teaching and research missions. This includes research and consulting for third parties (both companies and private), the management of patents and technology transfer activities, the creation of companies, the management of intermediation and support structures, etc.
Processing under contract (third party activities or jobs under contract) consist of research, consultancy, laboratory services, continuing education courses commissioned by third parties that compensate them.
The transfer of technologies and skills is an important tool to enhance and spread the objectives and results of scientific research in Italy, fundamental for the cultural and industrial development of our country to which the University of Turin makes its important contribution in the various forms of intervention. The exploitation of research results in its various forms therefore presents itself as an opportunity to find new financial resources, through mechanisms ranging from patents and other legal instruments for protecting intellectual property, to the creation of spin-offs, to research collaborations with companies.
